The National Brake & Electric Co. of Milwaukee Wis. was created in 1906 with the renaming of the National Electric Co. by the Westinghouse Co., its new owners. Both type & serial # are on this plate from the National Brake and Electric Co. and appears to be part of a rare line of industrial equipment—most likely a lathe or specialized machine tool—manufactured during the company's brief foray into metalworking machinery, likely around World War I.
Description below is pulled from the web:
What We Know About the SVC-2
Type SVC-2 is believed to be a turret lathe or engine lathe, based on discussions among collectors and machinists who’ve encountered similar machines. Serial Number 2933 suggests it was produced relatively early between 1917-1920.
Rare since lath production was short lived likely driven by wartime demand and stopped post war. Documentation is scarce as none are known to have surfaced publicity.
